He has his bachelor's and master's degrees in biology from the University of Central Florida and a doctorate in zoology from the University of Florida. He has contributed numerous scientific articles and book chapters on sea turtle biology, and his books include two volumes on sea turtles and their conservation. Dawn is a graphic design artist and scientific illustrator trained at the Art Institutes of Colorado and Fort Lauderdale. Her art and design are prominent in natural history books, posters, and museum exhibits. Blair and Dawn have merged their art, writing, photography, and design in a number of projects, including Florida's Living Beaches: A Beachcomber's Guide, Florida's Seashells, Living Beaches of Georgia and the Carolinas: A Beachcomber's Guide, and Seashells of Georgia and the Carolinas: A Beachcomber's Guide.

"ABOVE EXPECTATIONS"

I love this book. I carry it around like a three year old with a favorite blanket. I have been searching for a book like this that is not too big and bulky. When on turtle patrol from May to October, I have a number of items that I carry in my rucksack, therefore I was definitely not looking for a coffee table book. I was looking for illustrations of predator trackings and a list of behaviors that these predators leave behind but most of all a more in depth study of the sea turtles themselves. I believe that the more educated that I can become, the more that I can help protect these beautiful creatures. We do not want the next few generations to have to refer to history books that by far would never compete with the joy, wonderment and total surreal experience of seeing them come up out of the sea to lay their eggs or a frenzy of a hundred tiny turtle tots making their way to the sea. This book does just what it was intended to do. The graphics and detail are well above my expectations compared to others that I have purchased in the past. If your looking for a more in depth book with easy, clear education that you can understand without having a PhD in Marine Biology this book is perfect.

Incredibly well written and organized reference book regarding all aspects of sea turtles in the Atlantic and Gulf. Highly recommend it to anyone interested in any and all aspects of information regarding the various species, form and function, life cycle, and ecology, as well as our interfaces, experiences and efforts to protect these endangered animals.

Wow - what a book. Dr. Witherington has outdone himself in this practical guide about sea turtles. It's up close and personal for those of us that work with turtles and I believe it will be inspiring and highly informative for those that are new to exploring the world of biology and conservation of sea turtles.
