I passed the NCLEX on my first try with the Rayfield/Manning Review!

I recommend this book to all nursing students!

Yes, some of the illustrations are a bit far-fetched... however, the pictures REALLY stick with you. While I was taking the NCLEX, I had a question on SIADH and immediately the image of Soggy Sid popped into my head and I was able to answer the question quickly and correctly. The same goes with the Anticholinergic Medication image (now THAT one will be with me for life!).

You may not remember what each letter in the pneumonic stands for... but you'll remember the premise of the disease process, the basic patho and most importantly, the nursing intervention, simply by remembering what the picture looks like and what the person is doing!

example: cushy carl is holding a bag of potato chips and twinkies because people with cushings have elevated sodium and glucose!

I recommend that anyone who buys this book to color in the pages of the book when you aren't studying (example: if you're just watching tv while taking a break from studying, color while you're doing that! or while your kids are coloring in their coloring books, you can color too!) I colored my Soggy Sid in a yellow rain coat, cushy carl is in purple and I will always remember that.

The main thing thats gonna help you pass are doing as many questions as you can while reviewing the main points about diseases... and when you're reviewing the questions, its nice to have a picture in your head of what to look for/expect!

Good if you are a visual learner

This book is full of visual ways to remember nursing knowledge, and contains cartoon-like illustrations and pneumonic devices as a way to reinforce and remember various medical conditions, drugs, etc. It is a good way to simplify and streamline information if you learn visually. I would recommend it for NCLEX preparation, and while it helped me feel more confident and prepared for the test, I don't really think it ultimately made a difference in me passing the exam.

Essential for the gun collector

This book, Flayderman's Guide to Anigique American Firearms and their Values" is absolutely essential for any collector of firearms. The book is organized well, easily understood and very easy to find even some very obscure items.
As with any "price guied", however, use it only as a guide. Values on antique firearms change rapidly with demand, availability and condition. While a particular items may be quite scarce, it may not have a particularly large group of collectors looking for one. Popularity and demand for various types of firearms changes rapidly, be aware and only use the values listed as a general guide.
Essential book for anyones library.

Mick Wall has been a rock journalist since 1977 and currently writes for Mojo and a variety of other publications. He traveled extensively with Guns N' Roses in the last 1980s and early 1990s, first earning Axl Rose's trust and later his fury. He lives in England.

An informative but superficial biography

If you don't already know too much about Axl Rose and Guns 'n' Roses, this is a very informative read. On the other hand, there's nothing here that's really new. Most, if not all, of the information is from secondary sources (published articles and interviews, website posts, etc.) rather than original research. It's as much a biography of the original members of Guns 'n' Roses as about W. Axl Rose. Their stories are inextricably interwoven--it's only to be expected that a bio of Axl will cover a lot of GNR territory; however, as the title promises a bio of Axl, I was expecting a little more than I got. It's tempting to compare this book with the recently published biography of ex-GNR guitarist Slash, but I won't, because Slash was cool enough to give us a window into his own life in the writing of that book and was completely on board with its content, while this bio of Axl is, as the title says, unauthorized.

It does cumulate to some degree the timeline of Axl's *still* unreleased CD Chinese Democracy, and I came away with a slighly better understanding of the mystery behind its perpetual delay. Writer Mick Wall also covers the known facts of Axl's seclusion and the emotional and legal entanglements of the years following the disintegration of the original Guns 'n' Roses, the evolution of the "new" Guns 'n' Roses, and the persistent striving toward perfection that seems to inform (and torment) every choice made by Axl Rose.

While this is a worthwhile read for anyone who wants to know something about the provocative frontman to one of the world's biggest rock bands and how it all went down, as a biography W.A.R. fails to meet its own challenge. True biography requires much more in-depth research into the biographer's subject, with input from the primary players in the life of the subject, from the subject him/herself when possible, and it requires a willingness to delve in a balanced, serious way into the influences and motivations of the subject in order to see the large framework of a life and its influence, and what that life can contribute to our understanding of ourselves and the world we inhabit. Axl and his raw genius deserve as much. Hopefully his story will one day be told with the honesty it deserves.

The lives of Axl Rose...

To be blunt, anyone who is a halfway decent writer, who has been following the saga of Axl Rose/GN'R over the years, could have written this book. There is really *nothing* new here--no new insights, no new information, no secrets revealed--nada. It's a mess--just every rumor and known fact, strung together, with nothing of value to any fan or anyone curious in learning more about Axl Rose.

And Wall--yeah, we know that you have a beef with Axl--but couldn't you have been just a little more objective, instead of using spin to paint as unfavorable picture of Axl Rose as possible? For example, when discussing the band's 2002 and 2006 tours, why did you only focus on the negative reviews, and not mention any of the positive ones? When discussing "the Spaghetti Incident?," why note that it was "poorly received," when in addition to some negative feedback, it also got 3.5 Stars from ROLLING STONE and other positive reviews, such as the one from Entertainment Weekly? And these are just a few examples. And what's with the snide remarks, one after the other? It's going on 20 years since "Get in the Ring" was released, time to move on...

To be honest, "W.A.R. The Unauthorized Biography of W. Axl. Rose" says more about Mick Wall than Axl Rose. This book is nothing more than the bitter ramblings of a hack--a mediocre journalist, in the guise of a book.

Great book to discuss STDs with your children

Yes, I would rather be uncomfortable and feel awkward talking about this with my kids than have them hear it from their friends! I suggest every parent has the "sex talk" with their children while showing them this book page by page, like I did. Do not be discouraged by the eye rolling, the attitude, or even the gagging expression from your kids, because this book does create an impression for them to at least "THINK" about the consequences of sex. Believe it or not, kids do listen to what you say to them. This book is now available in my home where my kids can get to it whenever they want to learn more about STDs (complete with nasty gross pictures that I'm sure will make them think long and hard before they decide to engage in irresponsible sex!). Best textbook I ever bought!

I bought this book to use with my inmate substance abuse clients. I could not find an appropriate DVD to show sexually transmitted diseases but found this book. Several of the men stated they were going to remain celibate after having looked through the book!

Fresh and imaginative re-telling of Indian mythology from a Sci-Fi perspective

The book falls in Sci-Fic genre and it is highly inspired by Ved (aka Vedas - the ancient Indian literature) and mythology.

The canvas of the book is very bing. It is spread over around various galaxies and eons. The characters are built nicely. And over various chapters their attributes are explored. You need to remain attentive to the content or otherwise you may wonder why a character is doing such thing. The author is good at writing about the surroundings. His knowledge of oceanology and space both is evident through his writing.

Some good pieces of writing from book
You are our future, Through you we shall remain.
I carry no weapon except my knowledge and news about the future of this city.
I have met many who have an opinion about things that they have no idea about.
Your eyes see what your mind wants to see.

Low Points
The book could have been proof read well. Some sentences could have been written in better manner. Eg:
My dear Garad, you have been very helpful. I hope you all well ahead.
Lord, it is my duty that I have done.

The book ends without answering a few questions but as it is the first book of a trilogy, it would be wrong to jump to a conclusion about that; as the future books may justify the things.

What is in the book?
Vikram is just another youth, struggling to meet the ends. He is riding on the two horses; his job and his study. Lord Krit have a troubled childhood. Now he is a few eons old and on a mission. Maya and Mulos are helping him doing what he feels as the path of Dharma. Sage Agasth is a scholar with warrior skills, assisted by Gargi is able to find out a truth about the approaching havoc which will end almost entire civilisation and the race of humans may remain no more.Who and why wants to wreak the havoc? Will Agasth and his confidantes be able to save the planet? What role Vikram have to play in all these? That is the rest of the book.

Final verdict
Overall definitely a good choice for the Sci-Fi book lovers. With better writing this book could have achieved 4 stars. It deserves 3.5 stars at least. Recommended read.

A War To Start Many Subsequent Wars

Scribner's has reprinted this classic collection so that it's available for the 100th anniversaries in 2014, but this handy paperback for students is worth seeking out. A student of Fritz Fischer, the 1960s' main purveyor of Germany's war responsibility, Geiss assembled the key documents from the diplomatic crisis of June-August 1914. He endorses Fischer's overall views in his helpful editorial material. But the documents generally speak for themselves and allow readers to reach their own conclusions. Both central disputes --- over who started the war, & whether it was inevitable --- will likely never be resolved. The Great War profoundly influenced what came after (even more than WW2 in my opinion). Direct access to the primary sources is essential to permit informed knowledge of the past, enabling informed citizens worldwide to understand how the paths to war are chosen. And hopefully to avoid such tragedies in the future.

After 45 years Imanuel Geiss's July 1914 remains the best single-volume collection of documents on the origins of World War I. The introduction, commentary and document selection are excellent.
