A Guide For Prayer

I haven't finished reading this book yet, but I'm half way done and so far this is a really good book to read. I was struggling with prayer meaning I was having a hard time communicating with God. Every time I would try to get down on my knees and pray I would be distracted, I couldn't stay focus and at times I didn't know what to even say. Sometimes I watch Dr. Charles Stanley programs and that's how I found out about the book. At the time it seemed like the perfect book to help me get where I needed to be in my prayer life and I was right. If you are someone struggling with prayer this maybe a great guide for you. After that just let your heart and love for Christ be your motivation for having a relationship with the Father. I think even those who are strong in their faith can learn something from this book. It is very encouraging and filled with the truth. Only a man who is truly gifted would be able to deliver such strong and passionate words the way that Dr. Charles Stanley did in this book.

A great book about prayer

I loved this book and how easy to understand Dr. Stanley made the subject of prayer. His writing style is what makes this book a great study book on talking with the Lord. I gave this book 5/5 stars. I liked how the book gave practical steps to growing in your relationship with the Lord through prayer. I really liked how much he talked about how the Lord wants to talk with us. You will feel so loved and accepted by the Lord after reading this book. Your desire to pray will also grow immensely as you learn how easy it is to talk to the Lord and how much He wants you to talk with Him. I would recommend this book to anyone who desires a better prayer life or who needs to be reminded how important prayer is!

I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.

About the Author
Dr. Robert L. Mathis is professor emeritus of management at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). Born and raised in Texas, he received his BBA and MBA from Texas Tech University and a Ph.D. in Management and Organization from the University of Colorado. At UNO, he has received the "Excellence in Teaching" award. Dr. Mathis has co-authored several books and published numerous articles covering a variety of topics. He also has held national offices in the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and served as president of the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). In addition, he is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) by HRCI. He has had extensive consulting experiences with organizations of all sizes and in a variety of areas. Firms assisted have been in the telecommunications, telemarketing, financial, manufacturing, retail, healthcare, and utility industries. Dr. Mathis has extensive specialized consulting experience in establishing or revising compensation plans for small- and medium-sized firms. Internationally, he has consulting and training experience with organizations in Australia, Lithuania, Romania, Moldova, and Taiwan.

Dr. John H. Jackson is professor of management at the University of Wyoming. Born in Alaska, he received his BBA and MBA from Texas Tech University. He worked in the telecommunications industry in human resources management for several years before completing his PhD in Management and Organization at the University of Colorado. During his academic career, Dr. Jackson authored six other college texts and more than 50 articles and papers, including those appearing in ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT REVIEW, JOURNAL OF MANAGEMENT, HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT, and HUMAN RESOURCES PLANNING. He has consulted with a variety of organizations on HR and management development matters and has served as an expert witness in a number of HR-related cases. At the University of Wyoming, he served four terms as department head in the Department of Management and Marketing. Dr. Jackson received the university's highest teaching award and has been recognized for his work with two-way interactive television for MBA students. Two Wyoming governors have appointed him to the Wyoming Business Council and the Workforce Development Council. Dr. Jackson serves as president of Silverwood Ranches, Inc.

Dr. Sean R. Valentine is the University of North Dakota alumni leadership and ethics professor and professor of management. Originally from Texas, he received a BS in Management/Human Resources from Park University, a BS in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management from New Mexico State University, an MBA in Business Administration from Texas State University, and a DBA in Management from Louisiana Tech University. He was employed in the hospitality industry for many years and was an officer in the Army National Guard. During his academic career, Dr. Valentine published more than 75 articles in journals such as HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT, HUMAN RELATIONS, HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT QUARTERLY, EMPLOYEE RESPONSIBILITIES AND RIGHTS JOURNAL, JOURNAL OF BUSINESS RESEARCH, JOURNAL OF BUSINESS ETHICS, JOURNAL OF PERSONAL SELLING & SALES MANAGEMENT, CONTEMPORARY ACCOUNTING RESEARCH, and BEHAVIORAL RESEARCH IN ACCOUNTING. His primary research and teaching interests include human resource management, business ethics, and organizational behavior, and he has received numerous awards and other recognition for his work. He also has consulted with a variety of organizations on different business matters.

Very good book especially for those applying for the HRMP text

Great content, poor form

This textbook has very good, up-to-date content that makes it an acceptable choice for using in any course on introductory principles of human resource management. It has a distracting weakness, however, and that is that its copy editing and proofreading were pretty poor. The book has a large number of writing errors in it. The errors are of pretty much every variety and category, including these:
- Misspellings (e.g., repeatedly misspelling "develop" as "develope" in chapter 4)
- Comma splices (chapter 2 has a nice one: "Audits frequently...to collect information, they may be performed by outside entitites...")
- Noun-verb number mismatch (e.g., saying "it is [singular] provided" when the the antecedent noun is "efforts" [plural] in chapter 8)
- Incorrect punctuation (e.g., "It is unrealistic: however: to expect..." in chapter 1)
- Errant words in sentences (e.g., "HR practices that to maintains a high-quality, workforce" [Yes, you're also seeing an incorrect comma and noun-verb mismatch in this awful sentence in chapter 2])
- And so on and so on.

If you're trying to get your students to write better in addition to learning something about HRM, this textbook may actually hurt your cause because it does not model good writing in many instances. I guess the authors and Cengage laid down on this one. Beware!

This text was required reading for a University level HR managerial class, but now I find out it is also one of the study text books for the state HR tests! That alone is a wonderful recommendation for this text. Each chapter outlines what it will cover, offers intelligent "thinking" questions after each chapter so you can practice what you have absorbed, & then pages of alternate subject matter resources. A must-have for every shelf of every HR administrator.

Excelente libro!

Este libro nos relata la historia de una familia desde un punto de vista de una mascota, nos cuenta como a veces cosas tan obvias no las tomamos en cuenta y como muchas veces hay que luchar para superar los obstáculos que se nos presentan diariamente. La historia esta bien contada, es claro y bien redactado.

No encontré ningún error en el formato del libro y la verdad se los recomiendo.

Disappointing compared to the lead-in story

The story begins with Scab & Hooked - the artwork with the Ekkimu is terrific, but most of the other art work is dark and muddy. However, both the Scab and Hooked collections are quite good.

India continues the story - but the interesting Ekkimu drops off the map, and the arc isn't as good as Scab/Hooked. India does at least feel a bit like a stand alone story arc. Or at least it has a standalone story embedded within.

Carnations is a dismal end to the this 4 collected story arc set which form one larger story arc. A mess of a story, with overly abusive moments that have a "jumped the shark" feel. Compare Carnations to Pandemonium, which is brilliantly conceived and executed, for comparison. Shade is over the top and not enjoyable at all.

But as usual bad Constantine is better than most other series good days.

Let's see where Constantine heads in the next five years. Hopefully he will be fully digitized moving forward....

I'm enjoying this story arc with Epiphany as it explores some fresh and untraveled territory for John in the matters of the heart.

Hellblazer: Bloody Carnations review

John Constantine is finally getting hitch. This is unless love sick alchemists, pure madness, and an old hell spawn stop it in the process. Constantine is shooting for his last chances at happiness and he'll need all the help he can get from friends (what's left of them), family (those that can stand him), enemies (a good chunk of Hell) and even a foreigner from Meta.

I was beginning to lose faith in Milligan after the disappointing arc for India, but now he has finally hit a sweet spot for John that I haven't seen in him since Hooked. The story flows well and gives the characters room to breathe. Milligan even manages to drop future story arcs nicely too. The only problem I have is some continuity issues, some of them big, and other small.

As for the artwork: Camuncoli and Landini actually pull off some pretty decent artistry. Their interpretation of Shade the Changing Man's madness is excellent. Do they still draw everyone biting their goddamn lips? You bet ya! I don't know, it may be that I've been following them for so long that I'm starting to get used to it. Still not one of my favorite teams in the art world, though. Bisley, however, kind of disappointed me this time around. He draws John as though he's out of shape, however if you look back about 4 books back he's in pretty good shape. He covers are even underwhelming at times.

All around, this is Hellblazer getting back on the right foot. The story is pretty good and flows nicely; the artwork is decent, though again, could be better. Hellblazer: Bloody Carnations collects Hellblazer #267-275, which is good bit of issues, on classic newspaper style paper, which is standard for most Vertigo titles. Aside from the covers no extras again. 4/5 stars.

About the Author

Domini Kemp is an award winning chef, food writer, and entrepreneur. In 2013, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and since then she has shifted her focus towards healthier eating. She changed her column in the Irish Times to focus on healthier recipes and opened Alchemy Juice Co., a juice and wholefoods cafe. The Ketogenic Kitchen is a must-have book for anyone interested in better health, particularly those who are open to -- or already follow -- a ketogenic or low-carb way of eating.

In addition to providing guidance on achieving a healthy, sustainable ketogenic lifestyle, it may very well be life-changing for people with cancer.

The Authors

Domini Kemp is a chef who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 and followed a diet based on unprocessed, low-carbohydrate foods during chemo and radiation. Patricia Daly is a former business analyst in corporate banking and current nutritional therapist who had remarkable results using a ketogenic diet as part of her therapy for eye cancer. At diagnosis, both women were eating what most people would consider very healthy diets: lots of whole grains, fruits, legumes and other foods high in complex carbs and low in fat. However, that all changed once they discovered the connection between high blood sugar levels and cancer.

The Book

The Ketogenic Kitchen is actually two books in one, and they complement each other beautifully.

The first part, "The Low Carb Way," is written by Domini. It includes a carbohydrate sensitivity quiz (created by Dr. Georgia Ede), a discussion about the benefits of carb restriction for cancer and other diseases, Domini's own story, and many delicious whole-food, low-carb recipes. The recipes are arranged by type: Breakfast, Soup, Mains, Vegetables, Dressings and Desserts. There is also a section with several vegetarian entrees that sound delicious.

In the second part, "The Ketogenic Way," Patricia shares her own story and expertise about the ketogenic diet, including detailed helpful hints for getting the best results from this way of eating. Chicken, Cashew and Broccoli Stir Fry (3.7 grams net carb)
Ridiculously Tasty Prawns (1.1 grams net carb)

As someone who favors gradually easing into carbohydrate restriction rather than going from a very high carb intake to one that is very low, I was happy to see that Patricia takes the same approach in "The Ketogenic Way." Her meal plans start with about 50 grams of digestible ("net") carb per day and progressively reduce daily carb intake to 12 grams over the course of 2 weeks.

Patricia's menu plans take the guesswork out of how many carbs to consume each day for your daily goal. In addition, she has organized this section so that the recipes for each day's meal plan are right on the same or the following page. I love that she encourages the reader to make extra portions of meat and vegetables to use as leftovers for the next day's recipes, which helps minimize the amount of time needed for meal planning and preparation. Patricia provides a lot of helpful information throughout these chapters, including easy and effective ways to include probiotics in your diet; identifying food sensitivities and adjusting your keto diet as needed; the benefits of sea vegetables, coconut oil and organ meats; and much more.

I also appreciate the emphasis placed on the healing qualities of foods in addition to their macronutrient composition. Herbs and spices are used liberally in the recipes, both for their antioxidant benefits as well as adding flavor and texture to the dishes. Nourishing bone broth and meat and vegetable stocks are the base for many of her entrees and sides.

In all honesty, I can't think of anything negative to say about The Ketogenic Kitchen.I believe you will truly enjoy this book and the recipes. Helped me pass the PE!

Great introductory text for a non-IE. Very broad, covers most of the range of the IE topic. I used it as a study aid when studying for the PE exam; I passed, and I credit much of that to this book.

Good: Covers lots of stuff that was on the exam, including:

-Industrial processes (metal cutting, Taylor tool life eqn)

-Facility layout

-Facility location (traveling salesman, milk run algorithms)

-Operations planning (forecasting demand, EOQ, exponential forecasting)

-Project management (PERT, crashing, forward/backward pass)

-Good introduction to stats and probs in the appendix

Not-so-good:

-Lots of wasted space on management theory (get a business text instead)

-Computer stuff is out-of-date

It does not go into substantial detail, so it is (as titled) an introductory text. Still, I highly recommend it to the non-IE.

I See The Light!

I see the light! And thanks to the book Green Lighting, by Brian Clark Howard, Seth Leitman, and William Brinsky, it's costing me less and it's easier on Mother Earth than ever before. I'm a huge fan of do-it-yourself projects, but most DIY books devote, at most, a chapter to lighting and barely a word to eco-friendly lighting options. Green Lighting provides easy to follow instructions and contains a mega-wattage of supporting materials and additional resources. Well researched and organized, Green Lighting helps readers understand not just how to incorporate green lighting into their lives, but why it makes so much environmental and economic sense to do so. This book will pay for itself over and over again, every month when you get your incredible shrinking electrical bill. Unless you're Amish, you need to read this book today.

I'll admit I'm biased because our anti-nuclear organization Rock The Reactors contributed research and assistance to the development of this book. So rather than write a glowing review, let me repost this comment I read on the Huffington Post recently, written by a blogger who goes by akvdh1:

"The biggest and quickest savings comes from wasteful energy inefficient lighting that accounts for 23 percent of all electricity consumption. 6,700,000,000 light bulbs and fixtures screaming to be replaced with energy efficient LED, OLED and better building designs to add natural light in retrofit and new buildings."

I've been wanting to upgrade my house to LED's for the last year or so. However, my wife was not willing to let me spend the money I needed to get the best units. In part of my research, I bought this book about "Green Lighting" and it was just fascinating to read through it. Because of this book, I was able to convince my wife that it would be a wise move and also a great eco-choice. If you're interested in learning about green lighting, I would highly recommend this book. It will tell you everything you need to know.

About the Author
Barbara Aehlert is the President of Southwest EMS Education, Inc. in Phoenix, Arizona and Pursley, Texas. She has been a registered nurse for more than 30 years with clinical experience in medical/surgical and critical care nursing and, for the past 18 years, in prehospital education. Barbara is an active CPR, First Aid, ACLS, and PALS instructor and takes a special interest in teaching basic dysrhythmia recognition to nurses and paramedics. She is a consultant with the Southwest Ambulance paramedic program in Mesa, Arizona, and an active member of the Pursley, Texas, Volunteer Fire Department.

fast shipping, great resale value, so much info and knowlege, i used it to study for my emt entrance exam and passed so it did what i bought it for. Have a frew people offerening to buy it but i actually think i may keep it.
